The Odyssey begun around February, 2008 with my decision to give away my career in IT. I had worked in the field for 8 years, on projects big and small, just found I had come to a point where I no longer enjoyed the job.
Around this time I also started traveling, having just visited Japan and made a multitude of trips to my surrogate home of Sydney.
I found I was truely happy when away from the job, which helped in my decision, and when I wasn’t traveling I found myself investing more and more time in the current generation of gaming consoles.
I spent hours, days, maybe weeks at a time playing games, and when I wasn’t playing, I was learning as much as I could about the industry and the communities that have sprung up around the Wii, PS3 and 360. The tenacity, zeal and outright fanaticism of the communities intrigued me and drew me in.
I started writing about games, and found I really enjoyed it. I joined in on gaming discussions, took part in beta’s and found the passion that IT had beaten out of me. It was then I decided to start a Gamer’s Odyssey, a site dedicated to travel and the pursuit of gaming related events around the globe.
While, due to funding, time and physical restraints I wont be able to achieve my goal of attending all the major events, I will be writing about any I can make it to, with the major highlight being PAX in Seattle, September 2009.
Along the way, why not follow my mischief on this life changing adventure and learn a little about gaming in the process!
